U2 Zoo makes for “Beautiful Day”

This weekend brings with it the arrivals of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, and even senile grandparents and politically incorrect uncles. Yes, Family Weekend is here once again, and the events are as charismatic and colorful as the relatives. While casino night proves to be the highlight of the weekend, especially for the card sharks and gambling savvy families, one new event this year is sure to spark a great deal of energy and interest from all.
U2 Zoo will be performing at 8 p.m. on Fri., April 28 in a Jockey Room located in the Todd Wehr Center. The Milwaukee-based U2 cover band will hopefully floor the audience, sending Grandma into overdrive and Grandpa longing for the streets with no names. This event, inspired by a band whose career spans across three decades, is a wonderful source to bring people, and families, of all ages together.
Director of Student Activities Paul Lidy explained how a band such as this one plays well into the weekend’s theme.
“Music from bands such as U2 Zoo will attract a diverse audience that is bound to be family-friendly and full of great music for this year’s Family Weekend,” said Lidy.
With a catalog of songs longer than the family plan phone bill, U2 seems like a wise choice to entertain both students and visitors. Ideally, families will leave the concert excited and entertained, while the lucky ones may even leave in matching shirts (considering free promotional material from the band will be given away). Noting says love more than a great weekend dressed like Mom and Dad.
Moreover, U2 Zoo presents a great opportunity for the children to show the parents a nice time, all the while milking them for money and food. Nevertheless, Friday presents a great opportunity to remind everyone that family really is the “Sweetest Thing.”overall.
